2016
Out of the Ashes
11/7/2016

These wood fired pieces were selected for inclusion in "Out of the Ashes", a national exhibition showcasing contemporary wood fired ceramics. It is being held at Morean Center for Clay, St. Petersburg, FL. From approximately 200 entries, 55 works were chosen. The show opens on December 10th, 2016 and runs through January 30th, 2017.






Taiwan Chawan Expo

The international chawan expo is being held in Maioli,Taiwan this year, and there are two venues. The first is at the Northern Maioli Art Center, from November 1st - 10th, 2016. The second exhibition is being held at the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute, also located in Maioli, from November 15th, 2016 - February 1st, 2017. International Wood Fire Exhibition

These eight wood fired vessels are part of the "International Wood Fire Exhibition 2016", being held at Schaller Gallery, 210 State Street, Saint Joseph, MI. The Clay Cup

These three wood fired kurinuki cups were recently selected for "The Clay Cup: Vessel, Icon, Canvas". Juried by Dan Anderson, 74 cups were chosen out of a field of 206 entered. This exhibition is being held from October 24th - November 17th, 2016 in the George Caleb Bingham Gallery, University of Missouri, Columbia, MO. This wood fired bud vase was recently selected for inclusion in "UnWedged", an exhibition of contemporary ceramic work, both functional and sculptural, from artists living in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.  This show will be held at Pottery Northwest's gallery, located in Seattle, WA, and will run from November 4 – 28, 2016. Sandy Simon, of TRAX Gallery, was the juror. Work selected for this exhibition can be seen by clicking on the News Heading above.



 

Cup: The Intimate Object XII

These five wood fired yunomi (cups) will be in "Cup: The Intimate Object XII" at the invitation of Charlie Cummings Gallery. UNF International Ceramics Exhibition
8/15/2016

This wood fired guinomi (sake cup) was recently selected for inclusion in "University of North Florida International Ceramics Exhibition". This show runs September 1st - October 15th, 2016, and is being held in the UNF Gallery of Art, on the campus of the University of North Florida, Jacksonville, FL.
An opening reception is planned for Thursday, September 1st, from 5pm-7pm.



 

Strictly Functional Pottery National

This wood fired katakuchi, or cold sake pourer, was recently chosen for exhibition in the 24th annual "Strictly Functional Pottery National". It was one of 110 pieces selected from over 850 works entered. The juror was Simon Leach. The exhibition dates are September 17th - October 22nd, 2016, with an opening reception being held on Friday, September 16th, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Presented by Market House Craft Center, this exhibition will be showcased at Kevin Lehman's Pottery Gallery, 560 South Prince Street, Lancaster, PA. Visions In Clay

These two wood fired pieces were recently selected for inclusion in "Visions In Clay", being held at L. H. Horton, Jr. Gallery, San Joaquin Delta College, 5151 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA. from August 25th - September 16th, 2016. There will be a gallery reception on September 1st, from 5:00 - 7:00.






Clay National XI

These two wood fired pieces will be included in the Carbondale Clay Center's national juried and invitational exhibition "Clay National XI: Intimacy of Scale". This show runs August 5th - August 26th, 2016, and there will be an opening reception on Friday, August 5th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. The Carbondale Clay Center is located at 135 Main Street, Carbondale, CO.

The wood fired katakuchi shown below will be exhibited in "Beakers, Cups, and Mugs: The Art of Drinking 2016". This is an juried international ceramics exhibition being held at Blue Dome Gallery, 307 N. Texas Street, Silver City, NM. from July 26th through September 15th, 2016.



 

Shapes of Influence

This wood fired chawan, or tea bowl, was recently selected for inclusion in the "Shapes of Influence" exhibition at the Springfield Art Association in Springfield, IL. The exhibition will run from August 5th through September 3rd. There will be a reception and awards ceremony on Friday, August 5th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.


Clay VI

This wood fired bud vase was recently selected for inclusion into "Clay VI", being held at the Kirkland Arts Center, 620 Market Street, Kirkland, WA. The exhibition opens with a reception on Friday, June 17th, from 6:00 - 8:30 pm, and runs through September 10th, 2016. Out of 149 submissions, 24 were chosen.


Working Pots

The two wood fired pieces below were recently selected for inclusion in "Working Pots", being held at James May Gallery, 213 Steele Street, in Algoma, WI. The dates for this exhibition are June 2nd - June 27th, 2016. There will be an opening reception on June 3rd.

Yunomi Invitational 2016

It is always an honor to be invited to participate in AKAR Gallery's "Yunomi Invitational". Located in Iowa City, its the town I lived in for three years while doing my MFA studies in Ceramics at the University of Iowa. Having work in this show is kind of like going back for a visit!

This piece represents one of 59 pieces selected out of 174 entries.


 

National Ceramics Competition

The wood fired piece below, "Bud Vase", was selected for exhibition in the "Twenty -First San Angelo National Ceramic Competition", being held at San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, One Love Street, San Angelo, Texas, from April 15th though June 26th, 2016. This is one of 115 works selected out of 721 pieces submitted by artists throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. There will be an opening reception on Friday, April 15th.

It is a pleasure to have been invited by ceramicist/curator Jeff Shapiro to exhibit in "SAKE WARE: Contemporary Sake Vessels by Japanese and Western Artists" at Lacoste Gallery, located at 25 Main Street, Concord, MA (phone: 978-369-0278; email: info@lacostegallery.com), from April 9th through May 7th, 2016. This exhibition will showcase sake cups and sake servers from makers in Japan, United Kingdom, and the United States. Each artists was asked to send five sake cups and two sake flasks/pourers. SAKE WARE: Contemporary Sake Vessels by Japanese and Western Artists

It is with great pleasure to announce that I have been invited by ceramicist/curator Jeff Shapiro to exhibit in "SAKE WARE: Contemporary Sake Vessels by Japanese and Western Artists" at Lacoste Gallery (Concord, MA) from April 9th through May 7th, 2016. This exhibition will showcase sake cups and sake servers from makers in Japan, United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States.

"This exhibition highlights contemporary sake ware from some of the most renown Japanese and western ceramists. The show includes a wide range of form and firings; from wood fired to highly decorated surfaces, as well as innovative approaches to design. The Japanese aesthetic of beauty in nature is interpreted by the artists in their own way. The exhibition shows the breadth of artistic creation through the vessel form."

Last Call

These two wood fired pieces were recently selected for inclusion in "Last Call", an exhibition which is "a national survey of handmade ceramics pertaining to the storage, presentation, service, and consumption of fine libations". Juror Matt Schiemann chose 160 pieces, from over 500 works submitted, to be showcased.
This show will be held at Companion Gallery, 3638 E. Mitchell Street, Humbolt, Tennessee, from March 4th - April 1st, 2016. It can be seen online by clicking on the news heading "Last Call" above.




International Cup 2016

These two cups were recently selected for exhibition in Clay Studio of Missoula's "International Cup 2016". Juror Josh DeWeese selected 45 works by 35 artists from over 200 entries submitted by 107 artists. The exhibition dates are February 5th - 26th, 2016, with an opening reception on Friday, February 5th, from 5:30 - 9 pm. The Clay Studio of Missoula is located at 1106 Hawthorne Street, Missoula, MT.
